- SHAREWARE INFORMATION
-
- QUEST II is a shareware program and is provided at no charge to
- you for evaluation. But, if you try QUEST II and continue to
- use it, you are expected to register.
- Fell free to share QUEST II with your friends, but please do
- not give it away altered or as part of another system.
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- Short Description:
- ------------------
-
- QUEST II is an Action-Arcade-Puzzle for PCs with a VGA-
- Graphics-Card. You have to reach the Exit of each level to
- finish the game and to free the kingdom of Lord Seventeeth from
- the evil monsters. To stay alive, you will have to survive lots
- of traps and monsters.
-
-
- The Levels:
- -----------
-
- Each Level of QUEST II consists of 3x3 Screens. If the hero
- leaves one screen, the graphics flips to the next one. To
- finish a level, you must reach it's exit. This sounds easy, but
- believe me, it is NOT !
-
-
- Playing the Game:
- -----------------
-
- You control the hero with your keyboard
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Commands:
- ---------
-
- Cursor-Keys .... Change Direction
-
- Space .......... Use Object
-
- M .............. Show Level-Map
-
- S .............. Save Current Game
-
- L .............. Load Saved Game
-
- ESC ............ Retry Current Level
-
-
- Quick Start:
- ------------
-
- QUEST II has a little built-in playground. Select the GOTO
- PLAYGROUND line in the main-menu and you enter a training
- level, where you can test the effect of all items.
-
-
- Speed of the Game:
- ------------------
-
- Game speed is adapted to a 12-MHz-AT-286. To adapt the speed to
- other machines, use the + and - key on your keyboard. Using the
- - key is always useful in risky situations !
-
-
- Saving and Loading:
- -------------------
-
- Loading and Saving a game is always possible while playing. To
- save the current game, just press S. A little save-menu opens
- and you can enter a number from 0-9 and a short text. pressingh
- return saves the game.
-
- To load a saved game, just press L while playing and enter the
- number of the desired game.
-
-
- Collecting and Using Items:
- ---------------------------
-
- You can collect an item by just walking about it. Some items
- can not be collected but just used at their home-place (e.g. a
- lever ). To use such items, touch them with your player (don't
- do that with pitfalls ! *smile* ).
-
- To use a item, you must put the hero in front of the target of
- the item-usage and press the space-key. After that a small blue
- box appears in the item-inventory. Use the cursor-keys to
- select the desired item with the blue rectangle. Then press
- Space again. Now the selected item will be used onto the object
- in front of your hero.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- E.g. to open a door, place your hero in front of the door,
- select the key right-colored key from the inventory and use it
- with space. The door will open !
-
-
- The Hero:
- ---------
-
- The Hero can be controlled withe the cursor-keys. He has
- infinite lives, but after every death you must start at the
- beginning of the current level. DON'T FORGET TO SAVE !!
-
-
- Your Friends:
- -------------
-
- YOu can meet a friend in each level. You can talk with him by
- touching him with your hero. He will ask you to bring him a
- certain item, which he is in need of. After you have found the
- item in the current level, go back to the friend and give it to
- him by using it onto his square. The friend will disappear and
- will leave behind some useful item as a reward for you.
- E.g. at the start of the game, you can see a friend in the
- prison-cell. When you talk to him, he will ask you to bring him
- the book lying around in the upper right corner of the cell.
- Bring it to him and as a reward he will give a bomb to you. Use
- this bomb onto a wall-block to blast your way out.
-
-
- The Monsters:
- -------------
-
- Most of them are really stupid. They always stay on their
- running-path. Don't touch them, they are lethal. To destroy a
- monster, just put a monster onto it's running-path. BANG !
-
-
- The Items:
- ----------
-
-
- Gold:
-
- Collecting through walking about. Not necessary to solve the
- game but good for getting a leading position in the Hall of
- Fame.
-
-
- Bomb:
-
- Use a bomb to blast a wall or the destroy a monster. To blast a
- wall just put your hero in front of the wall and use a bomb
- from the inventory. To kill a monster, just put a bomb onto his
- path. When the monster touches the bomb, BANG !
-
-
- Keys and Doors:
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Golden and silver doors can be opened ONLY by the right-colored
- key.
-
-
- Runes and Shrines:
-
- Use a rune (X-shaped thing, blue or red) with a shrine to make
- something strange happen on the current screen. Many times a
- wall block disappears and creates a new path.
-
-
- Levers and Pitfalls:
-
- Touch a lever to close a pitfall. Pitfall = Grey, rectangular,
- with a red center. Don't touch pitfalls, they are lethal.
-
-
- Blue Blocks:
-
- You can push blue blocks over the screen. They can be used to
- change the path of monsters or TO FILL PITFALLS. Just push a
- block into a pitfall and it will turn into normal ground.
-
-
- Other Items (Book, Dagger etc.):
-
- These items are not really useful for you, but you can exchange
- them against other items if you meet a friend.
-
-
- Exit:
-
- Shining blue, it is the finish of each level.
-
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
